Editorial standards

How we research and rank.

Our job is to make the reasoning visible: what matters, what evidence supports it, what remains unknown, and why one product fits better than another.

Effective July 24, 2026

Requirements before products

We first define the category attributes and hard constraints that can materially change the answer. A product that fails a required constraint is excluded rather than rescued by a subjective score.

Evidence and sources

We prefer manufacturer documentation for exact specifications and reputable independent testing for measured performance and tradeoffs. Buying guides list their sources and update date. Claims are kept with their source instead of being blended into unsupported certainty.

For editorial articles and buying guides, we may read publicly accessible webpages, cite them, and summarize relevant facts, including product specifications and displayed prices. If one researched page supplies a usable price, we show that observed price. If multiple pages show different prices for the same exact product and configuration, we show the lowest-to-highest range. We identify when the prices were observed and do not blend different variants, conditions, currencies, or conditional discounts into an unlabeled range.

Prices, availability, sellers, and configurations change quickly. When shown, they include an observation date or time, and the retailer page controls the final transaction. A dated editorial observation is not a live price feed or permission to monitor a retailer automatically.

Unknown means unknown

Missing evidence is not treated as a pass or a zero-dollar cost. Conflicting specifications stay visible until they can be resolved. We distinguish verified facts, estimates, and editorial judgment.

Affiliate independence

Some links can earn HoldTheCart a commission. As an Amazon Associate HoldTheCart earns from qualifying purchases. Editorial picks and their order are decided before affiliate links are attached, and commissions never influence them. We do not sell paid placement in product rankings.

Every affiliate buying guide carries one clear page-level disclosure. We do not clutter each product action with repetitive labels. For more about material-connection disclosures, see the FTC endorsement guidance.

Corrections

If a source changes, a configuration is mislabeled, or our reasoning is wrong, we correct the page and update its date. Send a specific correction with the page URL and supporting source through our contact page.
